Day 3 Eliminations - blog report with Phil Read ARCHIVE - 2009 WINTERNATS - DAY 3 2009-06-06
G'day everyone, Phil Read here live from the track - 8.20am.

Currently it is raining pretty good here and it's dark all around. Hopefully it should clear up but it doesn't look good. Qualifying was a challenge as the gremlins we picked up in Sydney continued to plague us on all three runs. We all had a very late night last night and went through everything on the car and changed alot of parts ready for race day today. We have a good match up today first round with my mate Phil Lammas. Hopefully we can come away with a win first round and set up a good base line for the rest of the day.

Hope to report back a little later with some good news.

Phil
Final qualifying session - Round 3 ARCHIVE - 2009 WINTERNATS - DAY 2 2009-06-05
The final round of qualifying has been run, and it was Martin Stamatis out first who ran a 5.20 after the car dropped cylinders at half track just before the blower belt come off, and Phil Read looked to be on a good number out in the next pairing against Phil Lamattina, however an engine exploding 5.62 was the result after a conrod came out the side of the block.

The crews are just turning the cars around now, and for Read's crew, they have the extra work of replacing all of the things that were damaged in the big fire he had. So it's back to the track tomorrow for eliminations, and we'll see you then.

The second round has been run now, and Phil Read was out first and ran an early shut-off 5.39 after a header came off, and Martin Stamatis ran a 4.69 @ 288mph after dropping some cylinders at the top end of the track. More reports soon after the final session which is scheduled to be run at about 3.30pm...

Friday May 1, 11.15pm ARCHIVE - NITRO 2009 - DAY 1 2009-05-01

As reported earlier, Phil Read ran a great 4.565 tonight while Martin Stamatis struggled to get too far on his run after he had some clutch problems and had to shut off early.

For Read, the run was actually an early shut-off pass after the engine burned up some pistons, so hopefully now with the data collected from tonight's 4.56, tomorrow may again hopefully produce some even better times by the JRR team if the conditions are good.

Stamatis is also very focussed to get in a full lap, and is confident that the data shared between his Crew Chief Rob Cavagnino and Bruce Read tonight will certainly be vital in laying down a good qualifyer for Saturday.

So stay tuned, and see you tomorrow for day 2 from the track (and not from an airport, or a car stuck in traffic, and a laptop with a flat battery this time!!)..The schedule for tomorrow's Top Fuel is to run at 4.25pm, 6.25pm and 8.25pm.

We have just arrived in Sydney, and are now heading out to the race track, but we stuck in traffic on the M5. Apparently Top Fuel has been re-scheduled to run at 7pm instead of the original 8.20pm schedule, so it looks like we may miss the first round ourselves, but once I hear what is happening, I will log back in for an update - hopefully with some results. I can see stars out the window, so the weather looks OK at the moment. So back soon...Just had a call that Phil ran a 4.565 off the trailer and Martin had a pedal...more info soon ;)

Blog post by Phil Blondel: Just sitting at Perth airport waiting to board our flight now. Martin is already in Sydney, and I am travelling over with Phil Jackman and Kaye. We arrive in Sydney at 6.20pm, so it is going to be a bit of a rush getting out to the track in time for the 8.20pm first qualifyer. Once I arrive at the track, I will have to quickly get my sign on done and get my armband, then it will be full on into it fitting up the on-board video cameras. Not sure what the weather is doing in Sydney, but will log back on later for a fresh update after the first pass tonight.
Nitro Champs Press Release - Wed 29.04.2009 ARCHIVE - NITRO 2009 - DAY 1 2009-04-29

The 2009 Nitro Champs scheduled to be run at the WSID Western Sydney International Dragway for this weekend, May 1, 2 and 3, 2009 is the next event on the Jim Read Racing calendar.

With both Phil Read and Martin Stamatis looking forward to getting back into the cockpits of their Auto One Billview Snap-on Fuchs Wynns Top Fuel dragsters after the recent break in the usually hectic racing schedule, the same can also be said for the team and Crew Chiefs who have been busy preparing both JRR cars for this weekend’s outing.

Bruce Read comments: “Our team have been very busy preparing the cars ready for this weekend’s Nitro Champs. Even with the cancellation of the last event, where everything was ready, we have been organising additional piston assemblies, building clutch packs, and replenishing the racing stock, which we use so much up of throughout the summer. This season has been a mixed bag of both scorching hot weather combined with rainouts as well, and we have also been chasing blower belt gremlins too, so at the moment, Phil is in second position in the points chase with Martin just 5 points behind in third. Phil Lamattina leads the series at the moment, but we are now looking forward to getting our cars consistent again so that we can run quick and fast out there and keep the excitement alive for everyone. I know I speak for my crew as well as myself in saying that we cannot wait to get out and run our cars. It seems like forever since we last raced!”

With three days of hard and fast racing just around the corner, Top Fuel is scheduled to run qualifying at 8.20pm Friday, 4.25pm 6.25pm and 8.25pm to then round out Saturday qualifying, and the Top Fuel eliminations will start from 11am Sunday. Check out www.wsid.com.au for event details, and stay tuned to www.jimreadracing.com.au for daily updates and JRR team reports.
