In 1965 a young plumber from western Sydney saw some demonstration races
of American Top Fuel Dragsters. Four years later a Top Fuel race car was
delivered to him - the first of many.
Read's first taste of
success came in 1970 when he entered and won the Top Fuel bracket at the
Australian National Championships, defeating the bigger supercharged
cars with a fuel injected 'junior fuel' entry.
Since 1970, Read's career has been one of constant achievement,
including 16 times Australian National Champion, 11 times Australian
titles (The Nationals) and nine Winternationals.
He has held every Australian top fuel record at least once in his
career.
